Colonial Residence

Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic

Restoration: PIA
Interior Design: Estudio Dos Gardenias

Established at the end of the 15th century as the first permanent settlement of the “New World”, the Colonial City of Santo Domingo was the place of departure of the conquest of the continent and the spread of European culture in America. Throughout its historical development, it has incorporated architecture of various eras with forms, styles, materials and construction methods that have enriched its knowledge and interpretations as a living historical center. Following a restoration that brought to life the authenticity and intrinsic values of the Residence, Estudio Dos Gardenias did a vivid interpretation of colorful geometrical forms in relation with the historical characteristic of the space. Commissioned artworks, vintage treasures and bespoke furniture work in tandem to support the overarching narrative. The idea was to set up many moods and strike a balance between the old and the new, as if the house had been cultivated over successive generations.
