Exhibition: Proliferación de Especies Espontáneas

This exhibit is set up around alliances in Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic. OCA is a foundation and art gallery housed in a house, Sindicato is a project without a fixed home that thrives on encounters, coexistence and the union of forces with other spaces and institutions. The works exhibited here have been gathered around their relationship with three areas of cohesion: text, textile and texture, words that in turn share the etymological root of tissue, regarding things that are made possible through the interweaving of various elements.

The immediate surroundings of OCA is Gazcue, an urban sector recognized for its historical importance and which, despite the real estate boom of the last decades, still constitutes a valuable architectural heritage of our city. The set of neo-Hispanic and modern buildings that make it up show a sensitive attitude towards the environment in which they are developed, integrating the interior with the exterior through permeable elements that promote the entry of light and breeze into the building, the succession of spaces articulated structures that connect what is built with the surrounding nature and the consideration of multiple areas for landscaping.

Following this conciliatory rhythm, Proliferation of Spontaneous Species brings together works produced through the implementation of various aesthetic, thematic, plastic, linguistic, sound, and corporal resources that overflow the exhibition space, spilling over the area originally conceived as a gallery and sprouting throughout the house. On this occasion, Estudio Dos Gardenias continued to explore in-laid bone as textural resource to follow the theme of the exhibition.

The Curated Kitchen: Atardecer

For the fourth edition of The Curated Kitchen, Estudio Dos Gardenias followed Zhorigo’s proposal, “A piece of Switzerland across the Atlantic”. For this special occasion we accompanied the chef's proposal of a humble dinner in a simple setting in the heart of Santo Domingo’s Colonial Zone. A familiar dim space where conversations took place in every direction was created for guests to enjoy the food in a mindful way without ornamental distractions.

The Curated Kitchen: Origen

The Curated Kitchen is a culinary project by Casaquien that began in 2016 with an open call for proposals, using gastronomy and critical thinking as vehicles to generate experiences in different formats. On its second edition the Swiss-Dominican chef Olivier Bur and Estudio Dos Gardenias were invited to create Origen, an event where lost ingredients, material, flavors and sounds were explored in a contemporary dinnersetting. Guests came together and bonded over an intimate moment in a warm environment by Estudio Dos Gardenias. We conceptualized in an intuitive manner the impact of local materials, food and music as communication mediums.
